It was by FAR the worst I’ve seen here in Malaysia.
I work on the 4th floor and we have the KL concrete jungle view. Yesterday’s storm was crazily bad that it was close to zero visibility (to me). At one point, here in my office, when I looked over at the end of my office, it was blurry-smoky-foggy in the room. The wind was damn strong that it got a little misty in the room. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?? Colleagues and I gushed to the window to check out the rain. Anyhoos, I went back to my seat and continued doing my work as it was almost the end of market.
Around 5-ish, my colleague’s cellphone rang and someone on the other end asked for me. My colleague was a little confused as to why someone was asking for me on his cellphone. He then passed the phone to me and I heard Mr. Em’s worried voice asking for my plate number. I was a little blur of what was going on and thinking “why is this dude asking me things when I have so much trade confirmations to send out to clients”. I slowly picked out few words “hujan-lebat-pokok-tumbang-habis-kereta-tumbang-banyak” OH EM GEE!!! There were many fallen trees and there were lots of cars trapped underneath go-knows-how-old trees!! My stomach churned and I was about to passed out! He asked me again what’s my plate number and I gave him and he went to look for my car and he said “Ha, keta ko OK!”
ALHAMDULILLAH ALHAMDULILLAH ALHAMDULILLAH
So I went back to work without bothering to go and check on my car.
About five minutes later someone emailed almost everyone pictures of what had happened. When I saw the pictures, I couldn’t work and had to pause. So I went downstairs to have a look on my car and silly me thought the rain had stopped; I didn’t take the umbrella with me so I “mini” jogged to the parking lot. I could see multi-colored field of umbrellas from a far and it was a solemn scenario as though there was a death. As I walked in the parking lot, the parking attendee said “Akak punya kerete ok, pagi tardi akak park kereta pun orke.” PHEWWWWWWWW…
I went out yesterday lunch and when I got back from lunch I usually, almost always, will park under the trees because I wouldn’t have anywhere else to park. Thank god I found one where no tall, big trees decided not to fight against the strong wind. So basically the two spots I parked my car yesterday was SELAMAT! However, those who parked at my regular parking spot had it BAD. Just awful! I feel extremely sorry for them.
So I went back to work and when I was done around 6-ish, the fire rescuers were there with chainsaws, cutting trees and getting one car out at a time. There were a huge crowd of spectators at that lot FOR SURE! The tow truckers were chasing after cars that needed their car to be towed. It was definitely the biggest event that parking lot has ever had.
I am ever so grateful to Allah Almighty for protecting my car and others besides few twigs and leaves. That is IT, no more parking under any trees PERIOD!

Grateful
Farah~
